Once the AltTexty plugin is installed and activated on your WordPress site, you need to activate your license key. This enables the AI generation features, connects to our service (if applicable), and allows you to receive plugin updates.
- Find Your License Key:
- It’s in your welcome email.
- It’s also available in your account dashboard on our website:

- Carefully copy your full license key and paste it into this field.
- Click the “Save Settings” button at the bottom of the page.

- If your license is active, you should now be able to use features like the Playground and Bulk Generation.
4. First Steps After Activation (Recommended) #
Congratulations! AltTexty is now installed and activated. Here’s what we strongly recommend you do next:
- Visit the Playground: Go to AltTexty -> Playground. This is the best place to experiment with different settings (Brand Voice, Focus Mode, Custom Instructions) on a few of your images to see how the AI works and to fine-tune your preferences.

- Configure Your Defaults: Once you’ve found settings you like in the Playground, you can save them as global defaults on the AltTexty -> Settings page. This ensures consistency for future generations.

Troubleshooting Installation/Activation #
- “Plugin could not be installed because it is missing the style.css stylesheet.”: This usually means you tried to upload the
.zip
file that contained another.zip
file inside (e.g., if the download included documentation and the plugin itself). Make sure you’re uploading the direct plugin.zip
(e.g.,alttexty.zip
). - “Invalid License Key” / Activation Failed:
- Double-check that you’ve copied the entire license key correctly, with no extra spaces before or after.
- Ensure your website can connect to our licensing server (firewalls or security plugins can sometimes interfere with outgoing connections).
- Verify your subscription is active on our website.
- AltTexty Menu Not Appearing: Make sure the plugin is successfully “Activated” on the WordPress Plugins page. If it is, try clearing any caching on your site or browser.
